FRP Stands For Factory Reset Protection
What does Factory Reset Protection mean?
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is a security feature found on Android devices. It was introduced to prevent unauthorized use of a device after it has been factory reset. When FRP is enabled, you need to enter the Google account credentials that were previously set up on the device to access it after a factory reset. This feature is particularly useful in case a device is lost or stolen, as it makes it harder for someone else to use or sell the device.
Examples of Factory Reset Protection
- Lost Phone Recovery: If you lose your Android phone, FRP can provide a layer of security. Even if someone finds your phone and performs a factory reset, they won’t be able to use it without your Google account information.
- Resale and Data Security: When selling an Android phone, enabling FRP ensures that the new owner cannot access your personal data post-reset unless they have your Google account credentials.
- Theft Deterrence: In case of theft, the thief cannot simply factory reset the phone and use or sell it as FRP will lock them out, requiring your Google account credentials to proceed.
